Food Industry Urged to Turn Farm Data into Action

|

Leaders and representatives from across the food industry met in Westminster this month at The Shared Insights, Stronger Collaboration: The Route to a More Resilient Food System event, hosted by Map of Ag.

Delegates heard from a number of speakers; Sarah Haynes, Head of Sustainability at IGD, Peter Kennedy, Head of Agriculture and Fisheries at M&S, Phil Hambling, Director of Agriculture and Sustainable Sourcing at ABP, and Keith Thompson, a Northamptonshire based arable farmer.

The event was filled with insightful discussion on the role of farm data and how this can be used to help the food and farming industry develop a more sustainable and resilient food system. Key discussions explored the practical steps that can be taken to engage farmers from all sectors, the standardisation of on-farm data reporting and how exactly value and cost from sustainability programmes can be fairly distributed across the supply chain.

The discussions highlighted that better data could provide the foundation for a more resilient food system, but its value will only be realised if it is turned into practical insight through collaboration, trust and a clear focus on delivering value for farmers.

These themes have been explored further in our white paper report from the event, which will look at practical approaches to improving farmer engagement, standardising farm data and creating a fairer distribution of the costs and value of sustainability programmes across the supply chain.

The white paper report from the event can be seen below.
