Cumbrian Farming Firm Map of Ag Wins UK Economic Innovator of the Year

UK-leading global data specialist Map of Ag has been awarded the prestigious Economic Innovator of the Year Regional Scale up Winner at The Spectator Awards, held in London last night (November 7).

This accolade recognises Map of Ag’s relentless pursuit of innovation and excellence in
transforming the agricultural landscape across the UK, Europe, New Zealand and Australia.

Map of Ag triumphed over five other finalists to claim the North West and North Wales regional title, an award that celebrates sustainable businesses at the forefront of economic change.

Headquartered in Penrith, Cumbria, Map of Ag is a fast-growing enterprise co-founded by a farmer, a vet, and an agri-data scientist. The company empowers over 25,000 farm users to seamlessly share emissions and other critical on-farm measurements with more than 100 value chain clients, including major names such as Weetabix, Sainsbury’s, and Arla.

This unique platform allows farmers to participate for free, benefiting their operations while enabling value chain firms and banks to comply with sustainability reporting requirements (scope 3 emissions) and pursue voluntary initiatives in animal welfare and biodiversity protection.

Map of Ag is set to become a world leader in agricultural data management, already leading the way in the UK and New Zealand, and with a growing footprint in Australia.

Map of Ag Sustainability Lead Caroline Hope said, “This award underscores our commitment to facilitating positive and voluntary farmer engagement in sustainability efforts. Our dream is to address all farm measurement needs via one platform to help lower on-farm work and compliance costs, enabling more rapid and effective sustainability progress. We are well on our way to achieving that.”

Currently, Map of Ag projects are making significant contributions to reducing emissions. Over the last three years, billions of kilos of food products have been measured, monitored, reported, and verified. This includes modelling millions of tonnes of potential carbon sequestration in soil and above-ground habitat creation. Miss Hope said, “There is much more work to be done, but we have the tools and expertise to help.”

Since its inception on November 11, 2015, Map of Ag has grown its revenues in excess of £5 million, with recurring revenues now constituting over 60% of total income. The company has ambitious plans for further expansion, aiming to extend its services to Western Europe and North America, with a new investment fundraising round opening in May 2025.

Winning this award will not only enhance Map of Ag’s reputation but also facilitate connections with investors, landowners, and industry leaders worldwide.
