Andrew has deep experience in agricultural software development, livestock recording, and data standards in New Zealand and internationally.
Working in New Zealand’s crown-owned agricultural research institute, AgResearch, Andrew undertook software projects in animal performance recording, breeding, and livestock genetics, before moving into farm systems. Andrew led the development of one of the first geospatial mapping applications created specifically for use by farmers.
In 2004, Andrew and colleagues founded Rezare Systems, a specialist software development and technology company focusing exclusively on agriculture and agri-food. That business became a leading developer of solutions in nutrient management, livestock performance recording, farm systems and agricultural data interoperability.
In 2020, Map of Agriculture Group acquired Rezare Systems, and Andrew moved into the role of group Chief Technology Officer (CTO) while continuing to manage the New Zealand and Australian operations.
Andrew’s deep expertise in livestock data and traceability led him to consult for agricultural data interoperability programmes in New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Australia. He has a comprehensive understanding of the issues in data interoperability from privacy and data governance, through access agreements and technical standards, to the underpinning technology stacks.
Andrew has served on the animal data exchange working group for the International Committee for Animal Recording (ICAR), leading collaborative work that resulted in the release of technical standards that are widely adopted globally.
